NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Gov. John Bel Edwards say three New Orleans biotech start-ups are expanding and will bring 135 high-paying jobs to the area.

AxoSim, which helps companies develop neurological drugs, will expand its facility at New Orleans BioInnovation Center, creating an estimated 75 new jobs with an estimated average annual salary of $60,000.

Cadex Genomics' molecular diagnostics lab at UNO's Advanced Materials Research Institute will create 50 new jobs, with salaries of $70,000 and Obatala Sciences will expand by up to 10 new jobs, averaging salaries of $80,000.

Cantrell says the companies help "incentivize local graduates to stay in our city," by creating advanced job training opportunities for those in the medical technology and clinical laboratory sciences fields.

The companies will post job openings soon.
