State Police say a Napoleonville man died early Sunday when his vehicle ran off the road and hit a culvert.
Devante Turner, 25, was driving north on La. 1 near the St. John Bridge, troopers say. He entered a slight curve and for unknown reasons ran off the road to the left. His car ran into a ditch, hit a culvert and overturned. Turner wasn’t wearing his seat belt and was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers say.
Impairment is unknown as a factor in the crash; however, a standard toxicology report is pending through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
Louisiana State Troopers say: “While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.”
