Officers are called to protect and serve all in their community. For officers with the West Monroe Police Department, that service included ensuring a family of ducks got safely back to the river.

On Tuesday morning, three officers escorted the family for two miles down Trenton Street which is located along the Ouachita River in West Monroe.

Officer Daniel Freeland shared the video of the escort to his Facebook page on Tuesday. The videos show the progress of the trip which began at the start of the sea wall and ended where the wall meets the levee.

Two of the officers helped with traffic control while a third helped coax the ducks along. Two citizens also stopped to help make sure the ducks were safe.

At the end of the escort, Freeland says that the family of ducks hopped over the levee and jumped into the river.

Video also shows the family swimming away.
