Two people have died in Ruston as a result of severe thunderstorms and a possible tornado Thursday morning, according to officials.

KSLA reports that the Mayor of Ruston has confirmed the deaths.

State police released video of troopers surveying the damage from the storm.

Louisiana Tech has canceled classes for Thursday as officials assess the damage done by a suspected tornado. The university says that power lines and trees are down in the area but that no students on campus were injured.

Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office says that several homes were reportedly damaged just south of the Louisiana Tech campus. KSLA says that those deputies were performing rescue operations in the area.

Photos of the damage have been shared to twitter this morning.

One person was also injured in DeSoto Parish after a tree fell onto a vehicle along Hwy 175.
