The former mayor of Vinton was found dead in Baton Rouge Saturday, after a man looking for someone he heard about on a dating app showed up at his house, our media partners at The Advocate report.

David Riggins, 64, was shot at his home off Old Hammond Highway after a dispute and died at the scene, police said. The coroner has scheduled an autopsy for Monday, the newspaper reports.

A Baton Rouge police spokesman confirmed that Vernon Mosby, 32, was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on second-degree murder and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police told the Advocate that Mosby arrived at Riggins’ residence “unannounced and uninvited” to find someone else in the house he had learned about via a dating app. Mosby claims that he left his eight-year-old daughter in the car as he called on the house.

The WBRZ Investigative Unit reports that Mosby used a dating app called Jack’d, popular among men looking for other men, to figure out Riggins may have another love interest spending the night with him. According to records, Mosby jumped a fence to Riggins’ home and vigorously knocked on doors and windows until Riggins and the person staying with him at the home woke up.
