A Baton Rouge woman was arrested for 4th offense DWI after another driver notified law enforcement of her alleged reckless driving.

Troopers later located 37-year-old Safaria A. Joseph being observed by East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s deputies and EMS personnel in a parking lot.

Troopers suspected Joseph was impaired when coming into contact with her. According to a spokesman with Troop A, Joseph performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test. She was then arrested.

While she was being taken to Louisiana State Police Troop A, the spokesman says she was verbally combative and kicked items in the rear seat as well as the rear window of the police unit.

Once Joseph arrived at Troop A, she allegedly became physically combative with troopers and punched the Intoxylizer machine.

Troopers say the suspect eventually submitted to the breathalyzer test, showing a blood alcohol content of .246g%.

Joseph was then taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, and while en route, she allegedly became combative again and injured herself from banging her head against the interior of the car.

The spokesman says she also destroyed official paperwork and a trooper’s jacket and attempted to kick out a window.

When Joseph arrived at the prison, she was treated for her self-inflicted injuries.

She was then booked with 4th offense DWI, reckless operation, resisting an officer, battery on a police officer (3 Counts), operating a vehicle while under suspension for certain prior offenses, simple criminal damage to property (2 Counts), and self-mutilation by a prisoner.
