A Thibodaux man was arrested on Tuesday after deputies say he threw his girlfriend’s cat into a bayou and then killed it using a machete.
30-year-old Cody Toups was arrested on charges of animal cruelty after deputies say he grabbed the cat from his girlfriend’s home and threw the animal into Bayou Lafourche. Deputies say that when the father of Toups’ girlfriend attempted to save the animal, Toups attacked the cat with a machete.
Deputies say the animal was found dead floating in the bayou with a large laceration to its midsection.
Toups was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. His bond is set at $15,000.
