INDEPENDENCE, La. (AP) - More than 30 students have been arrested at a magnet high school in Louisiana after a large brawl one day and a smaller fight the following day.

Tangipahoa Parish Schools Superintendent Melissa Stilley tells news outlets 26 students were removed Tuesday at Independence High Magnet School and another six on Wednesday.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards says the students were arrested on charges of disturbing the peace. Spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto says investigators don't think Wednesday's fight was related to Tuesday's.

Stilley says the students won't be allowed back until after disciplinary hearings. Possible penalties include expulsion and assignment to the parish's alternative school.

She told The Daily Star of Hammond that administrators are investigating what touched off the fights.

Stilley says there weren't any weapons, but some school employees suffered minor injuries.
