New information was released on a diesel spill that caused multiple crashes on I-10 near the Texas border on Wednesday.

There were 12 separate crashes reported and a total of 26 vehicles involved that closed the interstate for hours, according to police.

A tractor-trailer rig hit a piece of metal debris on the interstate around milepost 1, and it ruptured the fuel tank, troopers say. The spill covered the highway for about four miles, and because it was raining the diesel combined with the rain created conditions "unfavorable" for driving, said Trooper Derek Senegal.

Several Acadian Ambulance crews responded to the scene.

There were no reports of any injuries.
