Thursday's COVID-19 update show St. Landry Parish has largest increase in cases in Acadiana

Acadiana is still seeing increases in cases and deaths from COVID-19 according to Thursday's update from the Louisiana Department of Health.

Calcasieu, Iberia and St. Landry Parishes lead the region with the largest increase in cases and deaths than were reported Wednesday.

St. Landry Parish reported the largest increase in cases in Acadiana with 154 cases and 31 deaths on Thursday, which is 14 more cases and 2 additional deaths than were reported on Wednesday.

During an Opelousas City Council meeting on Tuesday, Dr. Tina Stefanski with the Office of Public Health said that 25 of 28 deaths were associated with area nursing homes. Tuesday's numbers saw the deaths increase by 6 with the two additional deaths announced at the council meeting.

Calcasieu Parish reported 11 new cases and 1 additional death bringing its total to 352 cases and 24 deaths as of noon on Thursday according to LDH. Calcasieu Parish reported 7 new cases in the Wednesday update with 3 deaths.

Iberia Parish reported 228 cases and 12 deaths in its Thursday update, which is 11 more cases and 1 additional death than were reported on Wednesday. This comes after Iberia Parish saw a spike in cases on Wednesday with a report of 22 new COVID-19 cases. The parish only reported one new case in Tuesday's numbers but did see a similar increase on Monday with 10 new cases reported.

Lafayette Parish reported only 4 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths have been reported for six days. Lafayette Parish now has a total of 439 cases and 17 deaths.

St. Martin Parish reported 8 new cases and no new deaths on Thursday. The parish has reported 210 cases overall with 13 deaths.

St. Mary Parish saw a slight increase in cases on Thursday reporting 6 new cases and 1 death. The parish's cases appeared to decline over the week. On Monday the parish reported 7 new cases with one death. On Tuesday there were 4 new cases but a spike in the reported deaths. Wednesday saw only 2 cases reported and one additional death. St. Mary Parish has a total of 168 cases with 18 deaths reported.

Acadia, Evangeline, Jeff Davis and Vermilion Parish saw no new cases and no new deaths in Thursday's report.
