COVID-19: State update - 124,461 coronavirus cases, 3,937 deaths

As of August 4, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 3,614 and the number of deaths had increased by 27, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 124,461and 3,937 deaths as of Tuesday.

LDH says the number of cases reported Tuesday includes a backlog of 1,741 cases with specimen collection dates as far back as 5/28.

The collection dates for the remaining cases, according to LDH, fall between July 28, 2020 and August 4, 2020. 96 percent of the cases reported to the state Tuesday were community spread and 35 percent are of individuals aged 29 and under.

LDH is reporting that 74,246 coronavirus patients are "presumed recovered" (updated weekly, last updated 7/27/20).

The LDH reports that 1,487 people are hospitalized (down 9 from Monday). Of those, 240 required ventilators (up 10 from Monday).

Parishes in Acadiana

Several of the cases reported on Tuesday, August 4, came from a May backlog due to the onboarding of a large commercial lab, according to Region 4 Public Health Director Dr. Tina Stefanski. Of the 1,741 backlogged cases reported on Tuesday, 1,262 cases are from Region 4.

Acadia: 91; Evangeline: 49, Iberia: 76, Lafayette: 728, St. Landry: 240, St. Martin: 33, Vermilion: 45 (Jeff Davis and St. Mary Parish are not located in Region 4)

Dr. Stefanski said that the date of collection range is 5/28-8/3 with the majority of backlogged cases collected since July 1. 78 percent were collected from 7/1-8/3.

Below are the case totals in each parish which includes backlogged numbers.

Acadia - 2,513 cases (up 110) | 77 deaths (no change)

Calcasieu - 6,594 cases (up 67) | 127 deaths (no change)

Evangeline - 805 cases (up 73) | 2 deaths (no change)

Iberia - 2,408 cases (up 161) | 66 deaths (up 1)

Jefferson Davis - 974 cases (up 11) | 24 deaths (no change)

Lafayette - 7,280 cases (up 857) | 89 deaths (up 2)

St. Landry - 2,530 cases (up 304) | 78 deaths (up 3)

St. Martin - 1,580 cases (up 61) | 42 deaths (no change)

St. Mary - 1,504 cases (up 59) | 49 deaths (no change)

Vermilion - 1,467 (up 89) | 19 deaths (up 2)

As of August 3, the number of coronavirus cases reported in Louisiana increased by 1,099 and the number of deaths had increased by 17, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 120,846 and 3,910 deaths as of Monday.

LDH is reporting that 74,246 coronavirus patients are "presumed recovered" (updated weekly, last updated 7/27/20).

The LDH reports that 1,496 people are hospitalized (down 38 from Sunday). Of those, 230 required ventilators (up 9 from Sunday).

On Saturday, July 18, the Louisiana Department of Health announced it will no longer be updating information on the COVID-19 dashboard on Saturdays. Information will be updated at noon daily except on Saturdays.
