A Church Point football player is getting plenty of attention after making quite the debut.
His first time on the field featured a touchdown which has led to newfound fame for Jayse Fontenot and the Bears.
It all started in gym class, when Jayse caught the eye of head coach JC Arceneaux.
"He's a kid that takes adaptive P.E. and he will come to the gym pretty regularly. We started throwing the ball with him and we saw it kind of helped curb his behavior, so we kind of took him under our wing,” Arceneaux explained.
Jayse, who has autism, is a little camera shy, but he wasn't shy about joining the junior varsity football team.
"They see him now as part of the football team, they see him as part of the program, it's a lot of positive interaction,” Arceneaux added.
Coach Arcenaux says his addition to the team has brought lessons on and off the field for Jayse and his teammates.
"He's really come a long way in a short amount of time so hopefully we can continue to help him grow because eventually we have to get him all ready for the real world."
Coach Arceneaux says they continue to encourage Jayse and make sure to keep him ready for crucial plays in the game.
