Calcasieu Parish District Attorney to retire

Posted at 11:33 AM, May 13, 2020

Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier has announced he will not seek another term, KPLC reports.

DeRosier told the station that he will retire at the end of his current term, which ends in December.

Last fall, KATC's Jim Hummel conducted an investigation into a program at the Calcasieu District Attorney's Office that allowed people to bypass court-ordered community service by purchasing gift cards. The gift cards are given to a non-profit that was started by the district attorney himself; the organization then distributes them to charities and charitable causes. To see Jim's story, click here.

The state Legislative Auditor has an investigation into the DA's office underway.
