Second Harvest Food Bank, UL Lafayette and United Way of Acadiana hosted another food distribution site in Lafayette.
On Wednesday May 27, meats, produce and other food items were given out to the public at Cajun Field. The service was a contact free drive-up service and no registration was required.
The distribution was set from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. but long lines persisted past 2:00.
Line up at the parking lot of Cajun Field began at around 9:30 am.
"We're glad we can do it, but it's heartbreaking that there is a need. We're hoping that through our partnerships with several non-profits in the area that we can continue to meet the needs as far as food, disability, and housing go," said Logan Pearce, Marketing and Communications Manager at United Way.
In April, a similar food distribution site was set up where those needing food assistance could drive through. Around 3,000 people were served during that event.
