South Louisiana Community College hosted its third annual Mardi Gras Parade at the Abbeville campus today.

Grand Marshals for the parade will be Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, and Precious Moments Head Start students Quinten Williams Jr. and Saige Bertrand.

The parade’s King and Queen are Isaiah Bailey and Charley Melancon, also Precious Moments students.

The members of the court rode in the parade in fancy cars, and wore crowns and sashes.

“It allows the children to be safe without the big noise and the big floats and all the commotion that goes with Mardi Gras,” said Lawana Stokes, director of the Gulf Area Campus. “So this event allows them to be safe and just catch the beads with children of their own age.”
