Abbeville Police say that two people were rescued from a coulee following a crash Monday morning.

On December 3, 2018, at 5: 57 am. officers responded to a vehicle crash on S. Hospital Drive where a vehicle went off of the road, struck a ditch, flew up in the air, flipped over and landed in the coulee.

The occupants were then trapped inside of the vehicle following the crash, according to police.

Upon arrival, two officers jumped into the water to assist with retrieving the two people.  The driver and passenger were just getting out of the vehicle through a window and trying to climb on top of the roof.  The vehicle was totally submerged. Officers were able to secure both occupants and they were brought to land.

Both were transported to Lafayette General Hospitals for injuries sustained in the crash.

Abbeville Police say that at the time of the crash,  temperatures were about 47 degrees, causing some difficulty for those aiding in the rescue.
