Open container laws in Abbeville are being relaxed.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the city council unanimously approved a revision to allow people to take drinks outside of downtown establishments, but only if they stay on the sidewalk near the building.
The council addressed the open container issue, after previously approving a smoking ban in city bars. The smoking ban goes into effect September 1.
