Several Super 1 Foods stores here in Acadiana were handing out free gallons of water and bags of ice to those who were without power due to Hurricane Laura.

Residents began pulling up to donation sites at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning until all supplies were out of stock.

Abbeville councilman Francis Plaisance says the gesture is helping a lot of people in need.

"We really appreciate what Super 1 Foods is doing, because a lot of people need ice and you can hardly find ice right now. So, they kindly and graciously came in with this truck today with ice to give to the public. We have a community that pulls together and helps one another."

Supplies were available at store locations in Abbeville, Youngsville, Carencro, Eunice, and New Iberia.

Visit the Super 1 Foods Facebook Page for more information.
