83rd Shrimp and Petroleum Festival kicks off in Morgan City

The 83rd Shrimp and Petroleum Festival in downtown Morgan City has officially begun.

Thursday evening, festival organizers gathered to cut the ribbon on the festivities which will continue until Labor Day.

This year’s Queen and King Caylee Deshotel and David Patterson were on hand to open the festival grounds located under the US 90 bridge in Morgan City.

Thursday evening, rides will open to the public until 11:00 pm. Friday, festivities will begin again at 5:00 pm.

Chief James Blair and the Morgan City Police Department on Facebook asks everyone to “come out and have at a great time; however, we would like to remind everyone to please be safe, keep a close eye on your children and lock your cars.”

They also remind festival goers that should children become lost, locate an officer who will escort them to the command post on the festival ground.
