An awareness seminar for older folks was held today at the Washington Community Center.

The event offered older residents a chance to get out and meet new people, hear presentations on various topics and engage in some fun activities, organizers say.

Cleveland Auzenne owns a transportation company and is part of the group. He came to present information about his service.

“We transport elderly people, handicapped people, all across the state of Louisiana,” he said. “We’re open 24/7. A lot of people don’t have transportation, so we provide that so they can get to their doctor’s appointments.”

Auzenne says he stays busy.

“There’s definitely a demand for this service. There are a lot of people who are sick and without transportation,” he said. “They face a lot of health issues every day.”

Delita Broussard, a St. Landry Parish school bus driver, was there working as a volunteer.

“It’s good for the elderly to get them out, meet other people and enjoy themselves at the same time,” she said. “They can play bingo and other fun activities. It means a lot to me, makes me feel good to help out.”
