Opelousas Police say a suspect is in custody following a robbery at a local bank just steps away from the police department.
Officers says that the robbery at Chase Bank on N Court Street at around 10:45 a.m. That Chase Bank is just a few feet away from the police department.
Officers began viewing area video surveillance after the robbery. Through that video, detectives were able to track the suspect to a nearby building that was unoccupied. The suspect, identified as Walter Freeman was found hiding in a shed.
Officers says they located $10,901 in cash in the shed with the suspect. Freeman will be booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on a simple robbery charge.
The Opelousas Police Department says the arrest was possible with the help of businesses in the area.
