The St. Landry Career and Technical Education Department announced today that JumpStart After Hours Programs are being offered at both Washington and Eunice Career Centers (WCTEC and ECTEC).

Program offerings include JumpStart After Hours Manufacturing and Hospitality Programs. Through the JumpStart After Hours Programs, both the ProStart I and NCCER Welding I courses will be offered this fall and spring.

These programs are only offered to students who have not earned the ServSafe Manager certification and have not taken ProStart I for one credit (Hospitality) and who have earned the NCCER Core certification and have not taken NCCER Welding I for one credit (Manufacturing).

Students can earn an Industry Based Certification (IBC), internship and/or job shadowing, and possibly earn up to $1,000.00 in stipends at the end of these programs. In order to qualify for the program, students must be current 9th – 12th grade St. Landry Parish School District students, and they must be able to provide transportation to WCTEC or ECTEC on a daily basis. Students must also commit to the completion of the entire course, which will run through March of 2019.

Applications are currently being accepted and can be obtained from the school counselor or by going to http://www.slp.k12.la.us/apps/pages/JUMPSTART. The deadline to apply for this program is October 5, 2018. The JumpStart After School Program begins October 15, 2018. Programs are contingent on full enrollment. Up to twenty students will be selected for each program.
