Most Acadiana parish jails report no COVID-19 cases among inmates

Several parish jails in Acadiana have reported no positive cases of COVID-19 among its inmate populations despite the lack of social distancing available in jail.

As of Wednesday, Aug. 12, the following number of positive COVID-19 cases are being reporting by each parish jail.

ACADIA - 0

The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office says that they have not had a positive case with inmates as of this time. However, APSO is reporting that there are two employees who have tested positive that work under corrections, but not specifically working in the jail.

CALCASIEU - 0

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office states that no inmates housed at the Calcasieu Correctional Center. However, there have been 23 CCC deputies who have tested positive for COVID-19 since March.

EVANGELINE - 0

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office say that they have had no inmates and no correctional officers test positive for COVID-19.

JEFF DAVIS - 0

The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office says they are diligently monitoring incoming arrests and spraying the jail with a disinfectant fogger on a schedule to do their best to safeguard inmates and employees.

IBERIA - 0

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office says that its jail still does not have any inmates that have tested positive for COVID-19.

LAFAYETTE - 0

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office say that they do not have any current positive cases within the inmate population. They have had 16 correctional deputies out with COVID-19 since this started.

ST. LANDRY - 0

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office says that they have no inmates and no corrections deputies who have tested positive for COVID-19.

ST. MARTIN - 91

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office is reporting that 91 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 with almost all of them being asymptomatic.

ST. MARY - 0

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office says that it has no cases inside the jail or the inmate population. However, SMPSO said that they had three employees that came down positive back in April.

VERMILION - 39

KATC could not reach the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office on Wednesday for their current cases. However, VPSO said last week that there were 39 confirmed COVID-19 cases inside the Vermilion Parish Jail, as of Monday, July 27.

VPSO told us then that the parish jail has undergone changes since March of this year with stringent protocols designed to minimize the chance of the virus making entry into the parish jail.
