The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Louisiana chapter held their annual Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide prevention. This year, though, the walk turned into a 'walk experience' and was held a bit differently.
Those interested were able to choose their own course, start time, team, etc. for the walk. Organizers said, "The walking is real - it's the community that's virtual this year."
Participants were able to stop by a location in Youngsville, where volunteers were on hand to distribute colored beads, each color representing a different connection to the cause. For example, white represents the loss of a child, while yellow represents the loss of a spouse.
Even amid the changes, the organization said their mission to save lives and bring hope has not changed.
So far, the AFSP's Acadiana Experience has raised more than $12,000 of their $60,000 goal.
If you missed the walk, you can still donate to AFSP. Click here for more information.
