More than a year after his suicide, Anthony Bourdain’s family and fans are remembering him today, his birthday, with Bourdain Day.

Bourdain was a food journalist, chef, musician and student of human nature probably best known for his CNN series, Parts Unknown.

Two of his best friends, Chefs Eric Ripert and Jose Andres, announced in May their plan to celebrate Bourdain with a day of commemoration on his birthday, June 25. They urged everyone who appreciated Bourdain to post and share tributes and memories with the hashtag #BourdainDay. Also today, they’re urging donations to a scholarship named for Bourdain at the Culinary Institute of America, where he attended culinary school.

Bourdain filmed one of his last shows here in Acadiana, experiencing for the first time our Courir de Mardi Gras. While here, he visited some of Acadiana’s restaurants, including Laura’s II and the only Popeye’s buffet on the planet. Here’s what Acadiana had to say after he died.
