A Lafayette Parish grand jury has declined to indict a suspect and a police officer involved in an October 2018 shooting.
At the time, Lafayette Police told us that they went to Hilda Street after a complaint of “criminal activity.” A day later, police said the caller reported some men smoking pot on their front porch. One of the men was shot by a police officer during the investigation.
That man, Keion Bonner, 19, of Lafayette, was hospitalized for about two weeks. He was accused of aggravated an assault on a police officer, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and illegal carrying of a weapon. The grand jury declined to indict him on any of those charges.
The grand jury also declined to indict the officer involved, saying there was no evidence of criminal activity on his part.
