Woman’s Foundation helping teens become babysitters

Posted

With summer in full swing, teenagers around Acadiana are gearing up to take on summer jobs.

The Woman’s Foundation in Lafayette is hoping to help those tackling babysitting become safe-sitter certified.
The courses touch on the basics like infant and child CPR, caring for a choking infant or child, injury prevention and management, behavior management, sitter safety, child care essentials and more.

The courses are available for young teens aged 11 to 16 and include one-day and two-day options.

“It’s important for them to learn these skills because they can take it with them for a lifetime,” says Terri Roberts, Education Program Coordinator at Woman’s Foundation. “Once they learn it, they’re not going to forget it. Better sitters today, better parents tomorrow.”

Pre-registration is required for the safe-sitter courses. For a full list of courses and to register head to womansfoundation.com.
