A man from Ville Platte is in custody after allegedly leading multiple police agencies on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle.

State troopers were alerted at 7:47 a.m. Friday morning about a stolen SUV, driving east on I-10, west of Sulphur.

Troopers in the area located the SUV and attempted the pull the driver over.

The driver, later identified as 19-year-old Dakollian Qwamain Deville, allegedly refused to stop and led troopers on a pursuit east on I-10 and into Lake Charles.

According to a state police spokesman, Deville exited I-10 and drove through several city streets in an attempt to escape police.

The driver then reached Shattuck Street where he got out of the SUV and fled, the spokesman says.

Deville was later located and apprehended after troopers searched the area.

The suspect was then arrested and booked into the parish jail on the following charges:

  • Illegal possession of stolen things
  • Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number
  • Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Aggravated flight from an officer
  • Resisting an officer
  • Following too close
  • Improper lane use
  • Driving on the shoulder

No injuries were reported, and no vehicles were damaged. Troopers say the pursuit lasted about 10 minutes.
