A shire to Our Lady of Fatima, which is an Eagle Scout’s final project, was blessed today.

Brenden Daigle, a student at Fatima school who also is a boy scout, built the shrine to depict the spot where Catholics believe a Marian Apparition appeared to children in May 1917 in Portugal.

Today’s blessing happened following morning mass at the school.

“For my eagle scout project I had to do something good in the community that would benefit the community, so I decided to build this shrine,” Daigle said. “I couldn’t be more grateful to everybody who has helped me along the way.”

Daigle said he tried to copy the shrine that was built on the site in Portugal, and even tried to get the right kind of wood.

“It’s basically a place where people can go to worship and praise God,” Daigle said.

Daigle said the project was a lot of work, but he’s glad he did it.

“I feel good, I know I’m making my family and friends proud, and I’m living up to the potential of scouting,” he said. “It’s really had an impact on me, and it’s a really amazing result.”
