In Lafayette, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will take a more active role in the permitting process for bars in their district.

The DDA can recommend to the planning and zoning board if a bar permit should be accepted or rejected.

To the advantage of potential business owners, the DDA has put together a “toolkit” to help them follow steps to get the authority’s recommendation.

“We want to make sure that if a nighttime business, a nightlife business wants to open downtown that we connect them to the right people; we help them think through what the right location is in the downtown district; and we make sure that they’re ready to open a business that can be successful in the downtown district,” said Anita Begnaud, CEO of Downtown Development Authority.
