For 21 years the Lafayette Education Foundation has been honoring the best that the Lafayette Parish School System has to offer.
And today, we’re highlighting another one of the 16 finalists. She’s a teacher who is new to the game but is already making a difference in the lives of her students at St. Peter and Paul in Scott.
After only teaching for two years, being named a finalist in one of the most sought-after teaching awards in Lafayette Parish never crossed Morgan Deshotels’ mind.
Seemingly born with a gift of being able to shape young minds, Morgan walks into her first-grade classroom every day excited to see what the day holds.
From reading to writing, Morgan says she gets to see her students progress as they grasp the fundamentals that will get them through the rest of their school years.
While being an LEF finalist is a major milestone for this young teacher, it doesn’t compare to the everyday joy she gets walking into her classroom. The dozen smiling faces greeting her, their minds open, ready to see what the day brings.
