Acadiana families started their Christmas season off with a blast today at the Lafayette Sonic Christmas Parade.

“It’s just a fun event we come to every year. We have a fun time, look at the bands and the floats and see Santa,” said Desiree Lemelle, who was there with her daughter, Erin William.

Elijah Smith, a Breaux Bridge resident, also was there.

“How everybody just come together as one, and they just all do their routines, and they dance,” Smith said. “They gotta practice and all that, they come for the parades. You know the kids like to see that, see them dance. You know it’s just a nice family event.”

Aimme Broussard was there with her goddaughter, Aisley Smith. Aisley liked seeing the fire trucks.

Blakely Habetz of Youngsville said he likes catching throws and watching the bands.

“I liked it when the Grinch came out,” said Cayson Jones of Opelousas.

Tucker Habetz of Youngsville said he came out to see his second cousin.

“She was in the band. That’s what we came here, we came here to spend time with our family,” he said.

“I’m not from here, I didn’t grow up here so parades are a new thing for me and I always used to stand in the back and not really be too aggressive,” said Kristina Ostrom, a Lafayette mom. “But now I’ve learned my lesson and I push to the front and I catch all the stuff and I give it to all the kids. And, honestly seeing their faces when you catch something cool is probably the best part.”
