LOPA held a candlelight vigil at Lafayette General Medical Center in honor of donors.
The ceremony happened Thursday evening was the third annual event honoring the heroes and their families who gave “the gift of life.”
The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) and Southern Eye Bank (SEB), recognized heroes who have donated organs, tissues and/or corneas over the last year at LGMC.
Bricks engraved with donors names will be placed in an area off of the main entrance to LGMC where donor families can visit to reflect on their loved ones.
“There is absolutely nothing that we can do to make it ok that these peoples loved ones died, but what we can do is make sure they know their loved one is remembered and their loved one matters. and that is what this does,” said Family Services coordinator Libbie Harrison.
