Grammy award winner and six-time Grammy nominee Peter Rowan will perform a solo concert October 25 at Burke-Hawthorne Hall.
Rowan is a singer-songwriter with a career spanning over five decades. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
From his early years playing under the tutelage of Bluegrass veteran Bill Monroe, to his time with Old & In the Way (David Grisman, Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements, John Kahn) and breakout as a solo musician and bandleader, Rowan has built a devoted, international fan base through a solid stream of records, collaborative projects, and constant touring.
Internationally, Rowan often performs as a solo singer-songwriter, while stateside he plays in three bands: the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, a quintet featuring Keith Little, Chris Henry, Blaine Sprouse and Paul Knight; Big Twang Theory and its Texas Cousin Twang n Groove; and rock band The Free Mexican Air Force.
For this date, Rowan will perform solo with his guitar. Opening for him will be the university’s own student bluegrass band, Vermilion Express, under the direction of Dr. Len Springer.
The concert is sponsored by the Dr. Tommy Comeaux Endowed Chair in Traditional Music. Organizers thank Louisiana Folk Roots and the Black Pot Festival for their partnership in bringing Rowan to Lafayette.
The concert is free to UL Lafayette students, staff, and faculty with UL ID card, as well as anyone under 18. Tickets for the general public are $20 at the door (cash only) and $15 in advance.
