The Department of Children and Family Services will be in Lafayette today hosting community conversations on the issues of child welfare and poverty.
The discussion, hosted by DCFS Secretary Marketa Walters and other DCFS leadership, will provide updates on the department’s activities over the past two and a half years. Those activities include foster care, adoptions, disaster food assistance and sheltering after the 2016 floods and sheltering assistance for Texas residents after Hurricane Harvey.
The event will also hold discussions on the department’s efforts to extend foster care to age 21 and the expansion of the SNAP Employment and Training Program.
The event will be held at 2:00 pm at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on 818 12th Street in Lafayette.
A second meeting will be held on Thursday, August 23 in Lake Charles at the Civic Center at 900 Lake Shore Drive.
