A Youngsville woman was sentenced Tuesday to two years and nine months in prison for stealing nearly $200,000 from a local breast cancer center.

Sarah Broussard, 48, also was convicted of filing false income tax returns.

Broussard was sentenced by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. on one count of wire fraud and one count of making and subscribing a false income tax return.

She was also sentenced to three years of supervised release, ordered to pay $197,227 to the breast cancer center and ordered to pay $48,838 to the IRS.

According to the April 4, 2018 guilty plea, Broussard embezzled from the breast cancer center while working there as the business manager beginning in late 2009 and continuing through November 2014. She also did not report the stolen money as income on her income taxes returns for tax years 2010 to 2014.

The IRS – Criminal Investigative Division, U.S. Secret Service and Lafayette Police Department conducted the investigation.  Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. McCoy prosecuted the case.
