A public meeting was held Thursday in Iberia Parish to discuss floodgate installations and flooding protections.

At the meeting, at Iberia Middle School, the parish government heard from residents about flooding.

The parish is considering putting flap gates on culverts along the commercial canal to help alleviate flooding, but before anything happens the parish needs money and has to go through preliminary steps.

“No engineering has been done yet, and we will never as long as I’m parish president will do any project where we’re talking about water without getting a complete engineering analysis done where we’re gonna have to get a stamp saying it’s approved and that it won’t affect anyone upstream, downstream or either side,” said Iberia Parish President Larry Richard.
