Students at Dodson Elementary will be going to new schools as early as next school year.

Iberia Parish School Board members tell KATC that the school will be repurposed for special programs; however, the board has not decided what programs will be housed there.

The 300 students that currently attend Dodson will be reassigned to either the new “state-of-the-art” Belle Place Elementary or North Lewis Elementary based on zoning. Belle Place will hold 350 students while North Lewis will have close to 500 students in attendance.

The Iberia Parish School board will host a special meeting on Wednesday, December 4 at 5:30 p.m. to vote on the Belle Place zoning plan.

Superintendent Carey Laviolette says that to keep all three Pre-K through sixth-grade schools open would cost the school system an additional $1.3 million annually.
