New Iberia Council to consider TIF

The New Iberia City Council will discuss activating a long-dormant TIF district to raise money for business-attracting infrastructure in a special meeting tomorrow.

The special meeting will happen after tomorrow’s regular 5:30 p.m. meeting.

On the agenda are two items. One is a resolution to publish a notice of intent to levy a tax, and the other is an ordinance, slated for introduction, that would activate the TIF.

If the ordinance is approved this month, tax collection would begin in January.

The TIF would levy a sales tax and hotel occupancy task in the district, which is located in Highway 14 Economic Development District No. 1.
