Texas man booked with DWI after I-10 chase

Posted

State Police arrested a Texas man after a chase on I-10 Saturday afternoon.

Oscar Canales Villatoro of Amarillo was booked with DWI second offense, open alcoholic beverage container, flight from an officer, reckless operation, resisting an officer, improper lane usage, no driver’s license, and illegal window tint. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

The incident began around noon when Louisiana State Police Troop D began receiving calls about a silver Dodge Charger with Texas license plates traveling west on I-10. The concerned motorists were reporting the Dodge Charger was speeding up, slowing down, and was all over the roadway, troopers say.

A Trooper in the area located the Dodge Charger on I-10 west near I-210 and attempted to pull the car over.

The driver, later identified Villatoro, refused to stop and led Troopers on a pursuit that traveled north on US Hwy 171. Villatoro was aggressively weaving in and out of traffic, but lost control of his vehicle after striking a curb, troopers say. Villatoro exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended by Troopers with the help of a local citizen who was in the immediate vicinity, troopers say.

At Troop D, Villatoro provided a breath sample revealing a blood alcohol concentration two times the legal limit, troopers say. V

In addition to Louisiana State Police charges, a detainer has been placed on Villatoro by federal authorities and additional charges are possible. Agents with the U.S. Border Patrol assisted with the incident.

No injuries were reported and no law enforcement vehicles were damaged. The pursuit lasted about 2 minutes, troopers say.
