Sulphur Police have upgraded the charge against a local man who was arrested last month.

Kelly Dutile, 36, was booked with second-degree battery initially, but the charges now have been upgraded to manslaughter.

The investigation began on July 25 when police were called to the 600 block of West Carlton Street. They found an unconscious man in a house there, suffering from obvious head trauma. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Dutile was identified as a person of interest, and allegedly confessed to being in a fist fight with the victim. He was booked on the battery charge Friday morning, but then Friday night the victim died, police say.

No bond has yet been set for Dutile’s release.
