Acadiana graduation dates for Class of 2020

Many high schools in Acadiana had to reschedule or completely change their graduation ceremonies for seniors in the Class of 2020 due to the COVID-19 public health emergency and the decision from Gov. John Bel Edwards to cancel school for much of the spring semester. Here is a list of what each parish's school districts are planning for their rescheduled graduation ceremonies.

ACADIA PARISH

Individual graduation ceremonies for seniors in the Class of 2020 were held from May 22 - 23.

CALCASIEU PARISH

All graduations graduation ceremonies were held at Matt Walker Memorial Stadium at Sulphur High School in Sulphur.

EVANGELINE PARISH

The Evangeline Parish School System held virtual graduations for parish high schools on May 14 and 15.

IBERIA PARISH

A tentative date for district graduations has been set for the week of July 13-17.

Jeanerette High School

On May 11, a drive through celebration in the parking lot of Jeanertte High School was held to honor the senior class of 2020.

Catholic High

Catholic High School in New Iberia held graduation ceremonies on Monday, May 18, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Commencement ceremonies were live-streamed for those who could not attend via Catholic High's YouTube channel.

A "flipped parade" was held Sunday, May 17, to honor the hardworking students.

JEFF DAVIS PARISH

The Jefferson Davis Parish School System announced the tentative graduation dates. Dates may change with new social distancing guidance.

  • Jennings High School: June TBA - Jerry Simmons Stadium
  • Hathaway High School: Friday, June 5, at 7:00 P.M. - Charles F. Groth Gymnasium
  • Lake Arthur High School: Friday, June 5, at 7:00 P.M. - Jack Doland Memorial Stadium
  • Elton High School: Tuesday, June 9, at 7:00 P.M. - Oris Guidry Gymnasium
  • Welsh High School: Wednesday, June 10, at 7:00 P.M. - Greyhound Stadium
  • Lacassine High School: Thursday, June 11, at 7:00 P.M. - John Juneau Gymnasium

LAFAYETTE PARISH

The Lafayette Parish School System have announced that graduation ceremonies for its high school seniors have been rescheduled for July 9-11. Commencement ceremonies will be held at the Cajundome. In the event that an in-person ceremony is deemed unsafe or is not allowed, a virtual ceremony will be held at each high school.

Each family of graduating students will receive FOUR reserved-seating tickets to maintain social distancing. Live streaming of each graduation ceremony will be available for family members and relatives who are unable to attend.

ST. LANDRY PARISH

The St. Landry Parish School System announced the Graduation ceremonies for seniors have been tentatively scheduled to take place on June 19, 2020 - June 20, 2020.

Beau Chene High School: 7:00 pm - BCHS Football Complex
Eunice High School 7:00 pm - EHS Football Comples
MACA 10:00 a.m. - Our Savior's Church
Northwest High School 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Our Savior's Church
Opelousas High School 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. - Our Savior's Church
Port Barre High School 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - PBHS Football Complex

June 20
North Central High School 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Our Savior's Church

ST. MARTIN PARISH

The St. Martin Parish School District have announced that its Class of 2020 high school seniors will have outdoor graduation ceremonies on Friday, June 5 at 6 p.m. at each respective school's stadium while practicing social distancing. Those include Breaux Bridge High School, Cecilia High School and St. Martinville High School. Each graduating senior student will have two tickets to give to guests that they wish to invite. Ceremonies will be live streamed for friends and family members who cannot attend with details on how to watch coming from each school soon. And in case of inclement weather, the schools' alternate plan is to hold the ceremonies on Saturday, June 6 at 9 a.m.

ST. MARY PARISH

Graduation ceremonies for high schools across St. Mary Parish have been scheduled in accordance with newly released COVID-19 guidelines announced this week. All graduation ceremonies will be held outside (weather permitting) at the school's football stadium and will include appropriate social distancing measures with limitations on the number and placement of attendees.

Centerville High School seniors graduated on Friday, May 22.

On Thursday, May 28, seniors at Berwick High School and West St. Mary Parish High School received their diplomas.

Friday, May 29
Franklin High School at 6:30 pm
Morgan City High School at 6:30 pm

Saturday, May 30
Patterson High at 10:00 am

VERMILION PARISH

The Vermilion Parish School Board held individual graduation ceremonies for its Class of 2020 seniors from May 14 - 17.
