The Iberia Parish School System announced a tentative graduation date and more details for its Class of 2020 seniors and the school closures from COVID-19.

According to a release from IPSS, a tentative date for district graduations has been set for the week of July 13-17.

IPSS adds that more details and information will be forthcoming as state and local governments provide guidance for gatherings in the coming months.

IPSS also gave some guidance on how high school students will receive credit for the remainder of the school year.

Since high school students completed over 50% of full credit coursework by the closure of

schools on March 16, the release states, the district will determine course proficiency and award carnegie units based on the minimum attainment of 1 quality point earned by averaging the first and second grading period of the Spring Semester.

According to school officials, those seniors currently failing courses averaging less than one quality point will have the opportunity to earn the quality point required for the credit.

Students in this situation will be contacted by the school counselor or teacher, IPSS said.

Students or parents who have questions can also email the senior counselor or teacher for more information, or visit www.iberiaschools.org.
