A Crowley Police officer who was targeted by City Council members about his post in a private Facebook group has been promoted.

Officer Aaron Bertrand was the subject of a civil service meeting last week, but no action was taken. You can see that story here.

Today, Crowley Police posted on Facebook that Bertrand and another officer, Detective Chad Gibson, were promoted.

Here’s the post:

Crowley Chief Jimmy Broussard said Bertrand had passed the test some time ago, and an opening for his promotion just recently occurred.

Broussard said last week that he had spoken with Bertrand and had meted out appropriate discipline to the officer. He also said the officer had his full support.

“I am in support of my officer because what he did was as a private citizen exercising his First Amendment right of freedom of speech,” the chief told us. “He is also a former serviceman in the U.S. Marine Corps. He fought to defend the same rights he’s being attacked for exercising.”
