A former part-time coach at Rayne High School is accused of having sexual relations with three 18-year-old students.
Twenty-eight-year-old Caitlyn Miceli is facing misdemeanor charges of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student.
One week ago, the Acadia Parish School System received a tip that Caitlyn Miceli was allegedly having sexual relations with three 18-year-old students. The school system then contacted the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Superintendent Scott Richard would not comment on how the school system received the tip. Miceli is a former substitute and part-time assistant volleyball coach at Rayne High.
“We want the public to know that we take supervision of our students very seriously here in Acadia Parish, not only at Rayne High School, but all of our schools,” said Richard.
If the students would have been under the age of 18, Miceli would be facing a felony charge. Although the students are adults, it is still a violation of Louisiana law for an educator to have sexual contact with a student. We asked Sheriff KP Gibson if Miceli could face jail time.
“Well, I mean, I think anything that’s a criminal charge, it just depends on the judge, and it depends on a lot of things. They look into the background and so forth. To say no or yes, it’s not really my place to do so. It really depends on the judge who will determine what’s going on should that person be convicted of a crime,” Gibson said.
Richard said Miceli is no longer employed by the school system.
“I want to assure the public that any allegation of misconduct we take very seriously, and we will investigate fully.”
Gibson said, “We work really close with the school board to try and make sure we handle everything we can for our children. Yeah, we look at everything very seriously. We also want to make sure we are fair to both sides in this matter as well.”
We went to Miceli’s last known address. Her dad said their family has no comment.
