Former Estherwood police chief arrested again on drug charges

The former Estherwood police chief has been arrested again on drug charges, according to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office

Deputies say former Chief James Burnett, Sr. was arrested on Wednesday, September 19 after an investigation into various narcotics being sold from a residence on Jefferson Avenue in Estherwood. Burnett was identified by deputies as a resident of the home.

In a release, deputies say they uncovered 90 pills, Methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia at the residence. The home, according to deputies, is located in a drug-free zone.

Burnett was arrested and booked on charges of 3 counts of PWITD Schedule II Narcotics, 4 Counts of PWITD Schedule IV Narcotics, 3 Counts of PWITD Legend Drugs, 1 Count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and 1 count of Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Drug Free Zone.

His bond has been set at $75,000.

Burnett was arrested on similar narcotics charges in March of this year.
