A motorcyclist was killed in Acadia Parish on Tuesday evening following a crash on LA Hwy 95 and LA Hwy 365.

State Police say the crash took the life of 24-year-old Weston R. Nelams of Church Point.

An investigation into the crash revealed that a 2014 GMC pickup was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 95 behind a 2013 Ford Fusion when the driver of the Fusion attempted to make a left turn onto LA Hwy 365.

Troopers say the driver of the GMC failed to stop and attempted to steer to the left, striking the Fusion and then rotating into the southbound lane of LA Hwy 95.  Troopers say Nelams, who was traveling in the southbound lane of LA 95 on his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle, was struck by the driver of the GMC.

Nelams sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. Both drivers of the other vehicles were properly restrained at the time of the crash.

Impairment, according to troopers, is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken from all drivers for analysis by the State Police Crime Lab.

The crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
