2019 Record: 8-5
Head Coach: Kevin Bertrand
Notes: Won 50 games over past six seasons.
One of the hardest things to do in class 1A football is stay consistent. And for what Basile has done the past few years, give head coach Kevin Bertrand a lot of credit.
"Every year is a different year," he said. "We have different players that have different skill sets. What we're going to end up doing is use what we have and try to have another successful year."
Bertrand has navigated the Bearcats through the dips and curves of player turnover that comes with small schools, leading the Bearcats to 50 wins in six seasons. Over the past three years Basile has made it to the state quarterfinals.
"We've been on a successful run and we want to continue that. We don't want to be the team that doesn't," he said. "Our expectations are the same as always, I want them to play their best and hardest. If they can do that I can't ask any more of them."
Basile is in good position to continue its postseason run, returning 14 starters; albeit, many many of those are two-way starters and that is where coach admits that losing the spring hurts the most. A common theme among coaches this August has been the idea that teams haven't had a lot of time to evaluate new talent and assess depth. Basile is no different.
Defensively the Bearcats bring back eight. Last year that unit allowed 363 points, the most under Bertrand.
"We have a bunch of people returning who played last year; we have a really good chance to have a stronger defense than last year," said senior Wesley Lejeune.
