LAFAYETTE, La. –  More than 500 Greater Acadiana community members are expected to join the Heart Walk this Saturday, May 4th, to raise awareness and funds to fight heart disease and stroke – America’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers. The annual event begins at 8:30 a.m. at River Ranch Town Square with the Walk starting at 9 a.m.

The non-competitive, three-mile walk is open to all age groups and there is no fee for registration. This is the American Heart Association’s (AHA) 25th anniversary of this annual event to honor anyone in the Acadiana region who has suffered from heart disease or stroke.  Before and after the walk, attendees will receive health screenings, enjoy heart-healthy snacks and take home fun freebies. The Kids Zone will also have fun activities, challenges and face painting.

The money raised from the Greater Acadiana Heart Walk will help fund cardiovascular research and education. Heart disease and stroke are the leading cause of death in the region and an issue that hits home for many in our community. The Heart Walk raises awareness that heart disease and stroke are largely preventable through a healthy diet and exercise.

The annual success of the Greater Acadiana Heart Walk is due in part by local sponsors: Raghotham Patlola MD FACC, FSACI, Interventional Cardiology, Louisiana cardiovascular & Limb Salvage center.; P.H.I., The Lemoine Company, Gachassin Law Firm, Jones Walker, UBS, Iberia Bank and E.P. Breaux Electrical.
