Louisiana State Police report that two pedestrians were killed Friday evening in two separate crashes in St. Martin and St. Landry Parish.

In St. Martin Parish, troopers say that just after 5:00 p.m, the first crash occurred on LA 92 near Fontelieu Road. Fifty-nine-year-old Debra D. Teno, of St. Martinville, was killed.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling west on LA 92 when Teno allegedly walked into the roadway and was struck. Teno received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt but was injured.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this pedestrian fatal. Troopers report that the driver of the vehicle had no signs of alcohol impairment.

An investigation is ongoing.

The second pedestrian fatality occurred just before 8:00 p.m. in St. Landry Parish.

Troopers responded to a hit-and-run fatal on U.S. 190 near LA 742. The crash claimed the life of 52-year-old Kevin W. Bazar of Port Barre.

An investigation revealed that Bazar was walking southbound across the eastbound lane of the highway and was hit by an unknown vehicle. Evidence was collected from the scene and investigators are working on identifying the vehicle.

Troopers say that the suspect vehicle will likely have damage to its right headlight, right bumper area and hood.

The crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information related to the driver or whereabouts of the vehicle is asked to contact Louisiana State Police Troop I at 337-262-5880.
